Full Day Rainbow Mountain Tour From Cusco
Experience the breathtaking Rainbow Mountain Tour from Cusco, one of the must-see attractions in the city. In fact, it ranks second only to Machu Picchu in popularity, attracting over 800 visitors daily.

This multi-colored mountain is part of the Ausangate Mountain range in the Peruvian Andes and was once covered in snow. It gained international recognition in 2016 when the colors became visible as the snow melted. The mountain’s unique beauty has made it a popular tourist destination ever since.

While another Rainbow Mountain (Palccoyo) has been discovered in Cusco, this one is less well-known and attracts fewer visitors, offering a more authentic and unspoiled experience for those seeking it since you can expect not encountering other groups.

The trek offers stunning views of the majestic Ausangate Peak, which is considered a sacred mountain by locals and a prime natural entity. On a clear day, it dominates the southern skyline of Cusco and stands at an impressive 6,384 meters above sea level, the highest mountain in the region.

A tourists hikes the Rainbow Mountain route

The two and a half hour trek to the summit begins, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Due to the high altitude, we strongly advise spending at least three days in Cusco to acclimatize and avoid altitude sickness.

During the trek, you’ll pass through picturesque high-altitude farms, where you’ll see llamas and alpacas grazing. If you’re not comfortable hiking, you can opt for a horseback ride for an additional fee around $30 USD.

Once at the summit, our guide will share the mountain’s significance to the local community. You’ll have ample time to soak in the captivating views, and if you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike further to the red valley.
