Sandoval Lake is located within the Tambopata National Reserve, 10 km from the city of Puerto Maldonado, downstream to the right of the Madre de Dios River 45 minutes by boat and approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes on foot to Sandoval Lake , on the shores of Lake Sandoval Reserve. This lake is formed by a curve of the Madre de Dios River and is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Peruvian Amazon, exceptional to observe a great diversity of fauna and flora the place has a great natural beauty of the landscape as a great ichthyological by Peruvians. The Tambopata National Reserve was officially created in 1990, is located in the department of Madre de Dios, has 1.5 million hectares of land and is considered the largest biodiversity of capital in the world of the Peruvian Amazon. After your arrival in the morning to Puerto Maldonado, you will be received by our professional tour Guide and taken to our office, we recommend that you pack only the necessary things you need for your next days, the main luggage can remain in our security deposit. then with the relevant permit to enter the reserve, we will move to a local port, In the company of our Guide we sail along the Madre de Dios River tributary of the Amazon river and then, on a 45-minute trip down the river by motorized canoe, lunch in the boat, we can customize your box lunch with a vegetarian option, Once the Entrance of Lake Sandoval, we will make a stop at the checkpoint for check-in and the guide will explain the importance of the place to visit, and then we will make a walk of 1 hour and a half through the tropical forest, As we move forward the jungle is changing from secondary jungle to primary jungle, until we reach a small channel where we board our paddle canoes, paddle for 100 meters (almost the same in yards) through a swamp of palm trees, abundance of “aguajes” (mauritia palms) those palm trees provide the most popular fruit of the Peruvian jungle, highly consumed by locals as drinks and ice cream. Once we reach the mirror of the lake, we continue to our Eco Lodge, where we will be given your respective rooms, After a short rest we will do our first activity by boat to enjoy a spectacular sunset where we can observe in its splendor the fauna among them the night monkeys and bats and then to change and take our adventure boat in search of black Caimans (alligator (or) alligators tour). Sandoval Lake is the place where the largest black caimans of the Peruvian Amazon live, this species can reach Measure between 5 to 6 meters long and have been seen in this lake and then go to enjoy our dinner and rest.
Early we woke up to cross the lake by canoe and take a short path along the main path, 1 km along the path there is a special place where every morning parrots and macaws congregate to eat tree bark, very rich in minerals, dozens of blue and yellow macaws red and blue macaws take turns eating minerals in dead palms or in the palm trees that nest them. Returning from the parrot show, we have the chance to see the friendly family of giant otters that are very active at that time in the lake. Giant otters feed an average of 8 pounds of fish per day (4 kilos). Sandoval Lake offers abundant wildlife, including: 6 species of monkeys, black alligators, more than 40 species of birds resident on the shore of the lake, all 5 species of kingfisher from Peru, and the most abundant group of Hoatzin, all Animals here are easy to photograph from boats. We return to the Lodge and a deserved breakfast, then we go into deep jungle to see giant trees such as kapok tree, iron tree brazilian nut tree, our Guide will show you and demonstrate how we collect and market this extremely important product for Our local economy, then we return to the Lodge for our delicious,in the afternoon we take our paddle canoe, we go to the observation tower wher we can appreciate a beautiful sunset and explore a different area of the lake in search of the different monkey troops, very active at this time of day, the brown capuchin monkey the squirrel monkey live in the forest near the lake,to close the day before dinner we will do a night walk to see insects, tarantulas and snakes, then dinner and rest.
This morning we will wake up at 7.30 am breakfast. Then we will visit to the Monkey Island, where you can see 3 types of monkeys: white capuchin monkeys, black capuchin monkeys and squirrel monkeys. then we will return to the City of Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the airport or bus station.
