Itinerary

Day 1Puerto Maldonado – Sandoval Lodge – Nocturnal Exploration

We will pick you up at the airport or bus station and transfer you to our office for registration.

First day of the Lake Sandoval Tour

After that, we will head to the dock, where we will take a boat to the lodge (a 40-minute journey).

As a welcome gesture, we will offer you a refreshing juice made from local fruits, and at the same time, our guide will provide information about the lodge policies.

Our Lake Sandoval tour will begin in the docks

Then, we will settle into our assigned rooms.

After enjoying a delicious lunch and a short nap, we will embark on a two-hour hike through the dense tropical forest.

Our expert local guide will lead us along trails that will allow us to appreciate a wide variety of medicinal plants and trees that can live for over six hundred years.

Along these trails, we will have the opportunity to observe wildlife such as monkeys, parrots, macaws, armadillos, reptiles, insects, frogs, spiders, and other creatures.

We will experience the pure energy of the mother forest and live magical moments within the Tambopata National Reserve.

The pathing to the Lake Sandoval is signaled

At night, we will embark on a boat ride along the riverbanks in search of nocturnal animals.

We will have the opportunity to see caimans of different sizes, owls, nightjars, and, with luck, the world’s largest rodent, the capybaras.

We will return for dinner.

Day 2Lake Sandoval – Return to Puerto Maldonado

One of the best times to observe the abundant wildlife is at dawn or dusk.

In our case, we will opt for an early morning departure on our boat towards Lake Sandoval, located within the Tambopata National Reserve.

The Lake Sandoval during the early morning

Witnessing the exuberant biodiversity that Lake Sandoval harbors is simply unparalleled.

To reach the lake, we will walk along a wooden path of almost 3 km (1.8 miles).

Along the way, we will be surprised by the rich fauna that inhabits this place.

At the end of the path, we will find a small dock where we will board a rowboat to explore the lake.

During this journey, we can spot black caimans, giant otters, herons, turtles, monkeys, macaws, wild ducks, and much more.

We will return to the lodge before noon for lunch.

Our Lake Sandoval tour will finish depending on your schedules

Depending on your flight or bus schedule, we may return earlier or later for lunch.

In the Tambopata Reserve or Manu, you can enjoy an unparalleled experience thanks to our excellent lodge service and the unique natural environment with endangered animals.
