Our Peru Jungle Trips team will pick you up at the airport, bus terminal, or from your hotel and transfer you to our office in Puerto Maldonado for a brief registration. Depending on your arrival time, the excursion starts at approximately 9:00 a. m., ideal for making the most of your first contact with the Amazon rainforest.
Then we will head to the dock to begin a boat ride of approximately 30 minutes along the Madre de Dios River. During this journey, you will enjoy jungle landscapes, lush vegetation, and the first sounds of the rainforest, a perfect experience for those who enjoy nature and wildlife observation.

Day 2: Sandoval Lake Sunrise & Deep Jungle Experience
On this day of the tour, you will experience one of the most incredible moments of the entire Amazon journey. Very early in the morning, when the jungle awakens and wildlife is most active, we will begin our adventure toward the stunning Sandoval Lake, located within the Tambopata National Reserve.
We will navigate along the river at sunrise, surrounded by Amazonian mist and jungle sounds, until we reach the beginning of the trail. From there, we will walk approximately 3 km (1.8 miles) along a path surrounded by lush vegetation. Every step is an opportunity to encounter wildlife: monkeys, birds, insects, and much more.
Upon reaching the lake, you will board a row canoe to explore one of the most spectacular ecosystems in Peru. This place is simply magical. Here you will have great chances to observe giant otters in their natural habitat, as well as black caimans, turtles, herons, monkeys, and colorful macaws flying over the water.
After this unique experience, we will return to the lodge to enjoy a well-deserved Amazonian lunch.
In the afternoon, we will continue with a deeper guided walk into the tropical rainforest. At sunrise, we navigate upstream along the Madre de Dios River for approximately 1 hour and a half, surrounded by the golden light of the Amazon jungle sunrise and the sounds of the rainforest awakening. I was in Cusco and wanted to visit the jungle originally thinking Tambopata, overwhelmed with options. My desire was to visit the Amazon and be deep in the jungle with few people. I walked into the office and met Pedro who talked with me for over half an hour explaining different options. Ultimately, Pedro told me that Manu National Park is the place to be in the jungle with few people. Pedro helped me book a 6 day tour in Manu National Park 2 days later.
It is hard to describe how special Manu national park was. The trees, the wildlife, the river, seeing uncontacted Natives, and hearing all of the jungle sounds.
