Machu Picchu and Choquequirao Trek Tour Itinerary Summary
Day 1 – Cusco | Sacred Valley – Chinchero – Moray – Maras – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
The tour begins with a pickup from your hotel in Cusco at 7:00 a. m. to explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Day 2 – Aguas Calientes | Machu Picchu – Hydroelectric Station – Ccolpa Pampa
After after breakfast, you will ascend by bus to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu for a guided visit of its temples, ceremonial plazas and terraces; afterwards, you will descend to Aguas Calientes, then hike to Hydroelectric Station, have lunch and transfer to Ccolpa Pampa, where the route to Choquequirao begins and you will spend the night at an ecological lodge.
Day 3 – Ccolpa Pampa | Llaqtapata – Yanama – Mina Victoria
After breakfast, you will hike along part of the Salkantay Trail, visiting the archaeological complex of Llaqtapata and enjoying the surrounding landscapes; then you will continue to Yanama for lunch and a moderate ascent to the Mina Victoria campsite, with panoramic views of the Vilcabamba Mountain Range.
Day 4 – Mina Victoria | Choquequirao Pass – Choquequirao

During the bus ride up to Machu Picchu, along a road that winds along the mountainside, you will enjoy stunning views of the cloud forest, deep canyons, and the natural landscapes surrounding this archaeological wonder.

During the journey we will visit the Archaeological Center of Llactapata, an important Inca site surrounded by cloud forest and mountains, from where you can see ancient pre-Hispanic trails and magnificent views of the valleys. This sector is part of a less-traveled route, ideal for those who want to enjoy a Caminata Choquequirao surrounded by nature and away from the crowds.
Unlike the traditional itinerary, this alternative route allows part of the journey to be done by transport, reducing physical effort without missing the experience. Along the way you will pass through small Andean villages and observe the impressive landscapes of the Cordillera de Vilcabamba, one of the most remote and spectacular regions of Cusco.
Around 1:00 p.m. we will arrive at Yanama, a remote village located at the end of the road. Here you will enjoy a delicious lunch surrounded by mountains, fresh air, and spectacular snow-capped views.
In the afternoon you will begin a moderate ascent hike toward Mina Victoria, following ancient trails used by local communities. Upon reaching Abra San Juan, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Cordillera de Vilcabamba, surrounded by deep canyons, snow peaks, and vast mountain landscapes.
After approximately 2 hours of hiking we will arrive at the Mina Victoria campsite, where you will spend the night in a natural environment. If you wish to enjoy the best experience at Machu Picchu, we recommend booking at least 3 months in advance, especially for trips between May and July, as it is high season and the best schedules, especially in the morning, usually sell out very quickly.
Our recommendation will always be to try to obtain Circuit 2, considered one of the most complete because it allows you to enjoy the classic panoramic photo and explore a large part of the citadel.

I was in Cusco and wanted to visit the jungle originally thinking Tambopata, overwhelmed with options. My desire was to visit the Amazon and be deep in the jungle with few people.
