CITES (1975) states in its study that the illegal trade of this species is becoming increasingly organized. Although the jaguar is a hunting feline that creates balance in the food chain and benefits the control of species as well as the jungle vegetation, it continues to be a victim of wildlife poaching.
The anaconda: from majestic reptile to stolen treasure
The anaconda is a reptile classified as one of the most dangerous species of the Amazon; however, despite its great size and strength, it is a species that is continuously a victim of hunting. The anaconda currently faces the loss of its natural habitat, illegal capture, and poaching due to its skin, used for making luxury garments, and its meat, which is used for rituals or medicinal purposes. In turn, it is often captured alive and used as a specimen in private collections.
Hollywood movies such as “Anaconda” have also contributed to the indiscriminate hunting of this reptile without considering the importance of this species in controlling and protecting the ecosystem.
