The authentic traveler knows that travel is about far more than just visiting new places; it is about creating unique experiences, connecting with people and cultures through Indigenous culture experiences, and living meaningful moments. For those seeking authentic and unforgettable encounters, the Amazon rainforest offers truly memorable experiences.
When planning activities in Peru, visiting Machu Picchu is the most well known option. However, limiting yourself to Machu Picchu means missing the chance to discover the ancestral traditions of local and indigenous communities and to explore one of the world’s most iconic and biodiverse regions: the Amazon rainforest. A private Amazon tour allows you to experience nature and culture in a more personal, respectful, and immersive way, while also minimizing your environmental impact. At Peru Jungle Trips, we create tailor made journeys! Contact us to design your perfect adventure.

Learn from the environment protectors: Indigenous culture experiences in amazon jungle
Visiting the Amazon rainforest and learning about the culture of indigenous communities especially those families who protect their territory and our environment on a daily basis is a transformative experience. Although 55 indigenous communities are officially recognized in Peru, the actual number is likely higher, as there are communities that have not yet been contacted. Additionally, there are approximately 25 indigenous communities in Peru living in voluntary isolation or initial contact (PIACI).
The easiest way to connect with the indigenous communities of the Peruvian Amazon is to travel with a local guide and book a private excursion. This is because most of the trails leading to indigenous settlements in the Amazon rainforest are located in areas with limited access and dense jungle vegetation, reachable only by boat. During our cultural experience, you will be able to:
- Discover the traditional medicine and exotic plants of the Amazon rainforest.
- Gain insight into local customs and spiritual ceremonies, such as ayahuasca.
- Taste traditional Amazonian dishes such as tacacho con cecina, juane, or patarashca prepared by our professional chef.
- Participate in community activities and daily rituals.
All cultural experiences on our private tours are respectful cultural exchanges, designed to combine the best of both worlds: culture and adventure in a single trip.

Our indigenous cultural experiences
As Peruvian tour operators and travelers we understand the importance of working hand by hand with indigenous communities to support the local development. That’s why, at Peru Jungle Trips, we collaborate with them and design indigenous cultural experiences along the Amazon Rainforest.
Arambukt (Harambukt)
- In the Arambukt, the activities they carry out are conditioned by the context where women are dedicated to work in horticulture or river phenomena and men to activities linked to hunting or forest phenomena.
- The arambukt ethnic society live in the Shintuya native community in the Manu National Park. You can meet them and learn from them in our 5 days tour in the Manu National Park.
Matsigenka
- Like the Arambuk, the Matsigenka existed before the founding of the Peruvian state. In earlier times, the ancient Matsigenka had contact with the Inca and other cultures. In previous decades, the Matsigenka lived in small, scattered settlements, more independently, where the patriarch was responsible for the well-being of all members of the group.
- Currently, the Matsigenka teach us a little of their culture through art, textiles, and also their extensive medicinal knowledge.
- You can do a cultural exchange in our Manu Reserved Zone 6 days or Manu Reserved Zone Expedition 7 days.

Explore the Amazon in small groups
If you wish to travel to the Peruvian Amazon but aren’t sure about opting for a private, personalized trip, you can also choose to travel in small groups. At Peru Jungle Trips, we understand that travelers may prefer small-group tours, so we design experiences that combine culture, gastronomy, adventure, hiking, camping, fishing, and more.
- Manu National Park Tour from Cusco (2 days): ideal for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and travelers looking to enjoy an uncrowded environment.
- Manu National Park Tour with fishing (4 days): ideal for travelers wishing to see unique wildlife, such as spectacled bears, exotic birds at the macaw clay lick, monkeys, and insects.
- Manu Reserved Zone Tour (5 days): this trip combines wildlife and culture at the Casa Matsiguenka. Additionally, you can enjoy unparalleled landscapes, observe giant otters, and more.
- Manu Reserved Zone (6 days): one of the most culturally rich and exciting tours. You will navigate Amazonian rivers by boat, relax in hot springs, and observe wildlife.
- Manu Reserved Zone Expedition (7 days): without a doubt, this is the most comprehensive Amazon rainforest experience. Over the course of a week, you can combine birdwatching and hiking while enjoying a deep immersion into Amazonian biodiversity.
