Travel Tips for Peru

Exploring Peru is easier than it may seem! Here is what you need to know to enjoy the best of Peru.

  1. Book in advance and check available domestic flights, hotels, and transfers. Due to the Pope’s visit, demand and prices may increase.
  2. Avoid flights to Cusco on November 15. Remember that Cusco is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world, so allow enough time between connecting flights. We recommend booking flights for earlier dates. This will also help you secure the most suitable travel dates in advance.
  3. If you travel by road, be aware of the inspections on interprovincial transport services (Sutran announced more than 1,800 operations from November 9 to 16). Also, keep in mind that road journeys can take quite a long time. Although this is an affordable option, it is not the best choice if you want to save travel time.
  4. Carry your passport and keep it easily accessible, as there will be immigration and security checks. Remember that immigration authorities only accept physical passports.
  5. Allow extra time for airport transfers and travel between cities, especially on November 11, 12, 15, and 16, as large crowds are expected.
  6. If you attend an event, bring water, sun protection, and comfortable clothing, and follow the Ministry of Health’s recommendations for large gatherings. Remember that thousands of people from around the world are expected to attend the Pope’s Mass.
  7. Book services with officially registered operators and confirm dates, schedules, and change policies in writing. Although there are many travel agencies throughout Peru, only a few have the necessary permits to operate as travel companies.
  8. Stay informed through the official channels covering the visit and your airline. Airlines in Peru often reschedule flights, so it is important to confirm your flight details one day before and again two hours before departure.
