Starting May 1, 2026, visitors to the Historic and Sacred Sanctuary of Machu Picchu must pay an additional amount for the preservation of the Inca citadel. The amounts vary depending on whether they are national or foreign visitors as follows:
- Foreign visitors: 11 Peruvian soles.
- National visitors: 5 Peruvian soles.
This amount will be added to the current price of the Machu Picchu entrance tickets. This increase aims to protect the sacred citadel, support tourism reactivation, and improve the access infrastructure to Machu Picchu, which in the long term will guarantee a better experience for visitors.

Recommendations before traveling to Machu Picchu
- Book your entrance tickets at least 3 months in advance. Machu Picchu entrance tickets tend to sell out easily, especially in high season. Book in advance, choose your favorite circuit and route, and avoid lining up at dawn.
- Check the maps carefully. Each route within the circuits is amazing; however, not all routes will give you the same view for your classic photograph.
